Medallion Plus® "Human Friendly" Metalworking Coolant Offers Health Benefits Plus Performance
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- PetroLiance , one of the nation's largest distributors of fuels, lubricants and industrial fluids, has introduced a new "human friendly" metalworking coolant that greatly reduces machinists' exposure to hazardous chemicals while also offering improved performance.
The new metalworking coolant, the latest addition to PetroLiance's Medallion Plus® product line, has the potential to dramatically improve the lives of machinists and other metalworking employees, noted Scott Lane, the company's chief marketing officer.
"Many machinists and others who work in metalworking operations have long complained of serious health issues, which stem from the use of highly toxic cutting oils," said Lane.
Because the Medallion Plus® Metalworking Coolant does not contain any of the poisonous biocides that are suspected of causing these problems, it can greatly improve the health of machinists and other metalworking employees, he explained.
"In addition, Medallion Plus® Metalworking Coolant can also help customers streamline operations and lower their costs since a single formulation can be used in virtually every metalworking application," he added. "It truly lives up to the PetroLiance brand promise of improving our customers' profitability - while also improving their employees' health."
Among the problems that have been blamed on toxic cutting oils are lung and breathing problems, severe sinus disorders, dermatitis, and even psychological disorders such as dramatic mood swings, according to George Morrison, the PetroLiance sales manager who introduced the product to the company after his Columbus-based company, AV Lubricants, became part of the PetroLiance organization.
"Most metalworking coolants are a combination of lubricating oils and water-based coolants," he explained, noting that these water-based coolants inevitably contain microbes, which multiply rapidly when the coolant is mixed with lubricating oils, which are actually a food source for them.
"To prevent this microbe growth, traditional metalworking coolants are treated with biocides - strong poisons," he continued. "As the coolant removes heat from the cutting tool it vaporizes, and this releases these dangerous poisons into the air that workers breathe."
Medallion Plus® Metalworking Coolant, on the other hand, is formulated with a lubricating oil that does not support microbe growth. As a result, there is no need to add these dangerous biocides to the formula.
Over his many years in the industry, Morrison said, he has often entered metalworking facilities where his own eyes watered because of the toxic atmosphere. In many instances, the environment was so detrimental that workers eventually sued their employers over chronic health issues.
"Within months of switching over to our 'human friendly' formulation, workers have told me of amazing improvements in their health," he said. In particular, he recounted instances in which workers reported that chronic dermatitis, sinus infections and other problems had dramatically improved, and even instances in which psychological problems such as aggressiveness and serious mood swings had ended.
"In all of these instances, the only change the companies had made was to switch from highly toxic cutting oils to our 'human friendly' metalworking coolant," said Morrison.
"The ability to offer make such an important difference in the lives of our customers is truly one of the most rewarding experiences of my entire professional career," he added.
Medallion Plus® Metalworking Coolant is now being offered in all PetroLiance regions, in both five-gallon containers and in bulk. Five-gallon containers can also be ordered online for shipment throughout the United States and Canada, said Morrison. |
