HMP Forest Bank is a Category B local prison although the majority of the inmates are category C. The term local means that this prison holds people on remand to the local courts as well as sentenced prisoners. All restrictions will be reviewed on Monday 26 October, based upon expert public health advice and will remain in place as long as is necessary. While HMP Forest Bank suspended social visits earlier this month due to a small number of positive Covid-19 cases within the prison, visits will now continue to remain suspended in line with the Tier 3 restrictions.

The prison, which opened in 2000, is situated in Pendlebury, near Salford, and has a capacity of 1,460. There is a walk of around 400 metres from the bus stop to the visits centre entrance, which takes around 5 minutes. Following Public Health England (PHE) advice, a number of measures have been introduced to reduce movement across Forest Bank and to ensure the safety of all residents and staff.
