There's military muscle facing an unknown entity with dry, Cool Guy retorts, the persistent threat from different alien species that all look like my varying sleep paralysis demons, and bloody, grimace-inducing death animations. There's a fourth class, but People Can Fly wouldn't speak about it (yet).

It's a deep modding and crafting system that we haven't yet seen. With this being an early preview of Outriders, there were still plenty of skills that were locked by the time the session was over. There are three different classes in Outriders that players can choose from: Devastators, Pyromancers, and Trickers. Imagine the Vanguard class, which lets you harness biotic power while wielding weapons, and the changes implemented with Mass Effect 3 (Rolling to cover! Early on, the focus is on a melee ability called Temporal Slice that cuts through a wide area of enemies and turns them into exploding skeletons. It's not just about finding new gear in the world; it's also about picking up gear and finding ways to make it better to fit a specific playstyle. The combat in Outriders feels like an amalgamation of these two series: you're incredibly mobile and can choose to use cover or not (ignoring it won't constantly kill you, unlike in Gears), and your skills are powerful and cool down quickly (unlike in Mass Effect). It does make some encounters frustrating if only because you feel like you're stuck in cover until you thin out the horde. Enemies get harder, and the loot gets better. Just like the other classes, the player has plenty of options to better personalize their Pyromancer. Slain enemies will explode, Heatwave – deals fire damage in a straight line, Healing – recover health when marked enemies are killed, Temporal Slice – deal damage and slow a single enemy, Slow Trap – slows down enemies caught within the area of effect, Hunt the Prey – teleport the Trickster behind an enemy and boost shield, Healing – enemies killed at close range will heal the Trickster.
